Max Dowman to miss three matches after Arsenal red-card appeal fails
Arsenal midfielder Max Dowman will miss three matches after the club's appeal against his red card in Tuesday's Carabao Cup defeat at Fleetwood was rejected. The match ended 1-1 before Fleetwood won 5-3 on penalties.
Dowman, 16, was dismissed for violent conduct in the 85th minute after reacting to a heavy challenge by Fleetwood's Harrison Neal. His foot made contact with Neal, although he did not fully kick out. Arsenal lodged their appeal on Wednesday.
The suspension does not apply to European competition. Dowman had also been sent off while representing England Under-19s this month. Arsenal visit Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, with Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke out injured.
- Arsenal had 78 per cent possession and 26 shots in the Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting at Highbury Stadium, while Fleetwood had three attempts.
- In January 2025, an independent regulatory commission upheld Arsenal's wrongful-dismissal claim for Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension.
