Lithuania vs Netherlands: prediction & betting odds 7 September 2025

The Matchday 6 fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers between Lithuania and the Netherlands will take place on September 7 at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas. Lithuania vs. Netherlands: prediction and betting odds, statistics.

Lithuania

After four matches in the current World Cup qualifying campaign, the team is in fourth place, trailing the top three by four points. Lithuania has yet to secure a victory, with one loss and three draws. In the last round, Edgaras Jankauskas's side drew 1-1 at home against Malta.

  • The team has lost 14 of their last 19 World Cup qualifiers (1 win, 4 draws).
  • A maximum of two goals have been scored in 4 of Lithuania's last 5 matches in this tournament.
  • Lithuania has won only 1 of their last 9 home World Cup qualifying matches.

Predicted lineup for Lithuania (5-4-1)

Edvinas Gertmonas – Edgaras Utkus, Justas Lasickas, Artemijus Tutyshkinas, Edvinas Girdvainis, Klaudijus Upstas – Artur Dolzhnikov, Gvidas Gineitis, Gratas Sirgedas, Modestas Vorobjovas – Gytis Paulauskas.

Defender Edgaras Utkus will miss the match due to suspension.

Netherlands

Ronald Koeman's side tops the Group G standings. They have the same number of points as Poland and Finland (7 each) but have played one fewer game. In the last round, the Netherlands hosted Poland and surprisingly drew 1-1. The team's unbeaten streak in World Cup qualifiers has now extended to 12 matches, with 9 wins and 3 draws.

  • The Netherlands has kept clean sheets in 5 of their last 7 World Cup qualifiers.
  • The team is unbeaten in 5 away matches in this tournament – 3 wins and 2 draws.
  • They have not scored more than 2 goals in 7 of their last 9 away World Cup qualifying matches.

Predicted lineup for the Netherlands (4-4-2)

Bart Verbruggen – Virgil van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, Micky van de Ven, Jan Paul van Hecke – Ryan Gravenberch, Tijjani Reijnders, Frenkie de Jong, Xavi Simons – Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay.

Lithuania vs. Netherlands: Match Prediction

The visitors are clear favorites for the upcoming match. However, the hosts have a decent chance of at least avoiding a heavy defeat. In the current qualifying cycle, Lithuania has only lost once in four matches, and that was by a 0-1 scoreline. Additionally, Lithuania has avoided a heavy defeat in 13 of their last 16 home World Cup qualifying matches.

The Netherlands does not often win by a large margin, and when they do, it's usually against the weaker sides of the European continent. In their last 14 away matches in World Cup qualifying, the team has only one emphatic victory, and that was against Gibraltar. Considering the recent performances of both teams, it's worth considering a bet on the hosts, where they might lose by a small margin if they lose at all.

My prediction – Lithuania with a handicap (+2.5)

Lithuania — Netherlands betting tips 7 September 2025

Both sides owe their supporters an apology: Lithuania and the Netherlands failed to take three points where they were expected to. Now, though, all the pressure is on the visitors.

Nobody expects anything from Lithuania. Even their own fans, deep down, know they have little chance against a Euro semi-finalist. How can you dream of a draw when you barely scraped one against a League D Nations League side? Malta have always been seen as a minnow, yet they conceded the equaliser against Lithuania only in the 96th minute from the spot, when they were already down to ten men. After that embarrassment, Lithuania found themselves fourth in the group, four points adrift of the top three.

That pack is led by the Netherlands on goal difference, although they should have been two points clear. But they only have themselves to blame. The Dutch were sluggish, assuming the goals would come on their own. And this was against a Poland side boosted by the return of Robert Lewandowski. It wasn’t the Barcelona striker who scored, though, but full-back Matty Cash with a thunderous long-range strike. The Dutch reply came in the first half-hour from his opposite number Denzel Dumfries — and even then, not from open play but a corner.

If Ronald Koeman again starts Memphis Depay up top, the Dutch should be much sharper and stand a better chance of a convincing win. Even so, expect them to open the scoring early and then manage the game, which means the scoreline is unlikely to blow out.
