Olympique Lyon lead the overall Europa League stage and will now host Go Ahead Eagles, whose recent form has been disappointing.
Olympique Lyon
Olympique Lyon are playing quality football in the Europa League: four wins and one defeat in five matches, with a goal difference of 11:2. At home their results have been flawless, with two clean-sheet wins over Basel (2:0) and Red Bull Salzburg (2:0). Under Paulo Fonseca, the team play aggressively with a high press and plenty of possession, which allows them to create many chances while remaining solid in defence. In the latest Ligue 1 round they lost to Lorient (0:1), but in that match their attack let them down (0.43-2.57 in xG), and Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off.
Go Ahead Eagles
Go Ahead Eagles have serious problems both in attack and in defence: only four goals scored and nine conceded in five Europa League matches, with one win and one defeat away from home. Under Melvin Boel, the team try to use a compact defence and counter-attacks, but this approach does not provide stability or high productivity in front of goal. In their last seven matches Go Ahead Eagles have won only once, and in the Europa League they have twice lost without scoring — to Stuttgart (0:4) and Red Bull Salzburg (0:2).
Olympique Lyon vs Go Ahead Eagles Prediction
Olympique Lyon are clear favourites thanks to their excellent form and home advantage. Go Ahead Eagles occasionally play decent football, but with such a weak defence we do not expect them to get anything from this match.
