Last season Red Bull Salzburg played in the main phase of the Champions League, and now they have become one of the outsiders in the Europa League. Go Ahead Eagles will visit them, having unexpectedly been the most successful side in the main phase.
Taking into account four defeats in that Champions League, Red Bull Salzburg have gone seven matches without points in the main phase of any European competition. In 2024/25 they lost 0:3 to Paris Saint-Germain and 1:5 to Real Madrid, and now this has turned into defeats against European mid‑table sides such as Porto (0:1) and Ferencvárosi (2:3). Against Ferencvárosi, the Austrian outfit had a decisive collapse early in the second half: they conceded all three goals between the 50th and 58th minutes. Both of those defeats were at home.
Go Ahead Eagles suffered their only defeat at this stage at home as well. They lost to FCSB (0:1), who had only eight shots. One of the two wins, however, came away at Panathinaikos (2:1). It was a comeback victory. Thanks to these results, Go Ahead Eagles sit 12th and could even reach the top three, though that is unlikely given their small goal difference (+1).
There should not be a large margin against Red Bull Salzburg. First, the visitors need to avoid defeat, which will be difficult but feasible, given Salzburg are only 34th. A draw looks more likely for Go Ahead Eagles, so we recommend the Double Chance on the visitors.
