Ancelotti reluctant to start Mbappé for Real Madrid in UEFA Super Cup match

10 August 2024 20:57

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé may not be included in the starting line-up for the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta, as reported by As.

The team's head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, plans to field the players who participated in the Champions League final for the Super Cup clash.

In place of Nacho Fernandez and Toni Kroos, who have left the team, the coach intends to include Éder Militão and Luka Modrić.

Should Ancelotti ultimately decide to start Mbappé, who was signed during the summer, it would mean either winger Rodrygo settling for a place on the bench, or a tactical reshuffle that would see the Frenchman come in for Modrić.

In the 2023/24 season, Real Madrid emerged victorious in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, winning 2-0, while Atalanta convincingly defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final.

The match between the two teams is scheduled to take place on August 14 at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.
