Barcelona President: "Iniesta is the past, present, and future of the club"
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has shared his thoughts on club legend Andrés Iniesta’s decision to retire from professional football.
“Andrés Iniesta is a key figure in understanding the success and values of Barça. Iniesta is the past, present, and future of our club. He is part of Barça’s identity, an extraordinary person. I worked with Andrés when he was a player during my first term as president, and our relationship was excellent. He was a player who helped build the team and was a dedicated footballer,” Sport.es quotes Laporta as saying.
Iniesta played for Barcelona from 1996 to 2018, winning nine La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, six Copa del Rey titles, seven Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups. In total, he made 674 appearances for the club, scoring 57 goals and providing 136 assists.
