Bayern CEO criticises players for strike threat

Bayern Munich's CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, has criticised players over their threat to strike due to the congested schedule of matches.

Manchester City's midfielder Rodri and Real Madrid's defender Dani Carvajal had previously suggested that players might boycott games because of the intense calendar. It is worth noting that both Spanish players suffered cruciate ligament injuries this autumn.

"It is not right to threaten us with a strike from people who are on the top in terms of income. There are a lot of other guys who don't speak about that.

If we have a team like us, with 16 or 18 national team players, who travel all over the globe to different national team competitions, that means a lot of serious things on the travel time they need. For them it is definitely hard to do the work and we have to take care of their welfare," the BBC quoted Dreesen as saying.

Next summer, the Club World Cup will be held in the USA in a revamped format, featuring 32 teams from six continental confederations. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 15 to July 13.
