CAF is set to punish those responsible for the incident involving Nigeria's national team
The African Football Confederation's (CAF) disciplinary committee will take action against those involved in an incident with the Nigerian national team, a statement on the organisation's website reads.
"The CAF has been in touch with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after receiving information that the Nigerian team and staff were stranded in unsettling conditions at an airport where they were allegedly asked to land by Libyan authorities. The matter has been referred to CAF's disciplinary committee for investigation; appropriate action will be taken against the offenders," the organisation's statement reads.
The Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match between Libya and Nigeria is set to take place on Tuesday, 15th October. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, before arriving in Libya, the plane carrying the Nigerian team was urgently redirected to another airport, more than 200 km away from the city where the match was scheduled.
