FIFA's Disciplinary Committee is set to investigate potential violations and instances of discrimination by Israel
FIFA's Disciplinary Committee is set to investigate potential violations and instances of discrimination by Israel, as confirmed by the organization's official website.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated, "The FIFA Council has conducted a comprehensive review of this very delicate matter. Based on a thorough evaluation and in line with recommendations from independent experts, we recognize that the ongoing violence in the region highlights the need for peace, as was stated at FIFA’s 74th Congress."
The decision came following a meeting in Zurich on October 3. FIFA's management, audit, and compliance committees have been tasked with examining the participation of teams under the Israeli Football Association in tournaments held on Palestinian territory.
This follows a precedent where, in February 2022, FIFA and UEFA temporarily suspended Russian teams and clubs from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. These sanctions were reaffirmed in the fall of 2023, with both organizations confirming that the restrictions would remain in place until the conclusion of the conflict. In contrast, Israeli teams continue to participate in international tournaments despite the ongoing conflict with Palestine.
