Four-time French football champion with Saint-Étienne, Mekhloufi, passes away
Former Saint-Étienne midfielder Rachid Mekhloufi has passed away at the age of 88.
"With profound sadness, Saint-Étienne learned on November 8, 2024, of the passing of Rachid Mekhloufi, one of the club's legendary figures. He died at the age of 88," read a statement from the club's press office.
Mekhloufi played for Saint-Étienne from 1954 to 1958 and again from 1962 to 1968. During his time with the team, he won the French championship four times (1957, 1964, 1967, and 1968) and the French Cup in 1968. As a coach, he managed clubs including Bastia and La Marsa, as well as the Algerian national team.
