France Rejects Calls to Postpone Match Against Israel
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau responded to the news of attacks on Israeli Maccabi fans in Amsterdam.
"Some have called for the France–Israel match to be postponed. I do not accept this: France will not back down, as doing so would amount to yielding to threats of violence and antisemitism. At my request, the police prefect will implement the necessary security measures," the minister stated on social media.
On 8 November, reports emerged from the Netherlands that masked assailants had attempted to storm hotels where fans of the Tel Aviv team were staying, leaving at least five supporters with stab wounds.
Maccabi Tel Aviv faced a heavy defeat (0–5) against Ajax on 7 November in the fourth round of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
The France–Israel Nations League match is scheduled to take place on 14 November at Stade de France.
