Kompany outlines reasons for Bayern's heavy defeat to Barcelona

Bayern Munich's head coach Vincent Kompany reflected on the team's performance following their 4-1 loss to Barcelona in the third round of the Champions League group stage.

"We definitely gave 100% today, but our 100% wasn't good enough. At the beginning of the second half, we were chasing a result; the goal wasn't coming, so I went for an impulse of three changes. But that wasn't quite enough either.

In the first half, I think all of us, and you reporters will have felt it too, felt it was a game we could edge. But in key moments, we were outdone. The result is heavy, but we have to learn from this game against a good opponent so that the next time we have an opportunity like this, we can take it.

One very simple analysis is when you have control of the ball, like we did in a place like this, you have to use it to take the momentum away from the opponent. We made some chances and got in behind, but we weren't able to take the momentum away from them for 90 minutes, so when they were efficient and we were not perfect, we were punished by not keeping control for 90 minutes," Kompany was quoted as saying by UEFA.

Bayern currently sits in 24th place in the Champions League standings, having accumulated just three points.
