Kompany: "Rodri's Ballon d'Or win is a great achievement"

Bayern Munich's head coach, Vincent Kompany, has commented on Manchester City midfielder Rodri's triumph in the Ballon d'Or voting. It is worth recalling that the Belgian played for the Citizens from 2008 to 2019.

"I know Rodri well. He's an incredibly talented player. The fact that he won the award is a great achievement. There are always four or five players who are incredible. Vinicius Junior was also outstanding. There's a jury that votes. Rodri is a fantastic player, I'm sure he and the club are proud," Bayern&Germany quotes Kompany as saying.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony took place yesterday in Paris, where Rodri secured the prestigious award for the first time in his career. The 28-year-old midfielder also became the third Spanish player in history to win the award, following in the footsteps of Alfredo Di Stefano (1957, 1959) and Luis Suárez Miramontes (1960). Last season, Rodri celebrated successes with Manchester City, winning the Premier League and the Club World Cup, while also claiming the European Championship with Spain.

During the last campaign, the Citizens' midfielder scored nine goals and provided 14 assists in 50 matches for the club. At Euro 2024, Rodri netted once in six appearances. It's notable that in September, during an Premier League match against Arsenal, which ended in a 2-2 draw, the Spanish midfielder suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his knee.
