Lille Defender Meunier: "Playing for Real Madrid Should Be Every Footballer’s Goal"
Lille defender Thomas Meunier has shared his thoughts on Real Madrid ahead of their head-to-head encounter in the group stage of the Champions League.
"Real’s success over many years hasn’t been built on one or two players. If it’s the biggest club in the world, it’s because it has 25 quality players. Whether it’s Mbappe, Vinicius, or Carvajal—it doesn’t matter. But that didn’t stop us at PSG from beating Real when we also had slim chances. Anything can happen. We’re not the favourites, but we’ve shown our quality. The coach reminded us of that. We should enjoy the game, and a positive result is never impossible.
"Does Real Madrid inspire players?
"Real is a motivation for any footballer, like Manchester United or Bayern Munich—the best of the best. Every player dreams of joining Real, like Bellingham, whom I know well. Playing for Real should be every footballer’s goal. With ambition, you’ll have a successful career," Meunier told L’Équipe.
Lille will face Real Madrid in the second round of the Champions League group stage on 2 October.
