Manchester City is considering appointing Alonso in the event of Guardiola's departure

Manchester City is exploring potential candidates to succeed Pep Guardiola.

Earlier reports suggested that the club is considering bringing in Ruben Amorim from Sporting as a possible replacement should Guardiola depart. The Spanish manager's contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, among the candidates being discussed is Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso.

It has been claimed that this week, staff members at City received an email from CEO Ferran Soriano, who is expected to remain with the club for at least another two years, regarding new personnel in the business and football operations of the City Football Group (CFG).
