Argentina's captain and forward, Lionel Messi, expressed his dissatisfaction with the playing conditions during the World Cup 2026 qualifier against Venezuela, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

«It was a dreadful match. We couldn't even complete two consecutive passes because the ball kept stopping due to water on the field. Playing under such conditions is extremely challenging,» Messi told Reuters.

The game was delayed by half an hour due to the poor state of the pitch. The ground at the Estadio Monumental de Maturín was waterlogged following heavy rain just hours before kickoff.

Despite the draw, Argentina leads the South American qualifying standings with 19 points, while Venezuela is in seventh place with 11 points.
