Nigeria's national team was shut down in an abandoned airport in Libya, leaving players without water or food

Nigerian national team players complained that they were held in an abandoned Libyan airport without food and water for more than half a day.

The Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Libya and Nigeria is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 15. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, before arriving in Libya, the plane carrying the Nigerians was urgently diverted to another airport, which is more than 200 kilometers away from the city where the meeting is scheduled to take place.

Nigeria's national team captain William Troost-Ekong said the national team was locked up, leaving the players and coaching staff without phone service, water and food.

«We called on our government to intervene and rescue us. Together with the team, we have decided that we will not play this match. The CAF should look into this report and what is happening here», Troost-Ekong added.

On Friday, October 11, the national teams of Nigeria and Libya met at the Nigerian pitch. The hosts won the match with a score of 1-0.
