Paketa has made a statement in relation to accusations of breaching betting rules

West Ham and Brazil's midfielder, Lucas Paketa, has issued a statement amidst accusations of breaching gambling rules.

"I am dismayed by the misleading and inaccurate articles I have read in the press, both in England and Brazil, asserting to disclose information about my case. Some of this information is entirely false and seems aimed at undermining my standing," stated Paketa.

"I am also concerned that, despite the information being false and misleading, it apparently comes from a trusted source close to the case. Proceedings with the FA are presumed to be confidential and they are extremely serious for both myself and my family. The ongoing leaks and press publications of inaccurate information are putting my chances of a fair trial at risk."

Therefore, I have instructed my lawyers to write to the FA, requesting a thorough investigation into how this information, even if untrue, was made public. I continue to deny the allegations brought against me and am awaiting the opportunity to demonstrate my innocence," Paketa's statement read.

Earlier, it was reported by the press that the Football Association (FA) has called for the midfielder's lifetime disqualification. A hearing for the 27-year-old Paketa is slated for March next year.
