Peruvian footballer dies after lightning strike during match
Peruvian defender José Hugo De la Cruz Meza of Familia Chocca has tragically passed away at the age of 35 after being struck by lightning during a match.
According to Marca, the incident occurred in a game between Familia Chocca and Juventud Bellavista. In the 23rd minute, players began to leave the field due to an approaching storm when lightning struck one of them.
It was reported that a goalkeeper nearby also suffered severe burns. Both injured players were swiftly taken to the hospital, but De la Cruz Meza died en route.
