Popovic became the new head coach of the Australian national team

The Australian national team has announced the appointment of Tony Popovic as head coach of the national team.

The 51-year-old specialist replaced Graham Arnold, with whom Australia made it to the final stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Earlier in his coaching career, Popovic worked in the English Crystal Palace, as well as in the national teams of Greece and Turkey. From 2021 to 2024, he was in charge of Melbourne FC.

The Australian national team is ranked 25th in the FIFA ranking. In the last two meetings the national team lost to Bahrain (0:1) and played a draw with Indonesia (0:0) in the qualification of the World Cup-2026.
