Szczęsny Reveals Who Played a Decisive Role in His Move to Barcelona

Polish Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny Discusses Contract Signing with Barcelona

Barcelona's Polish goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczęsny, has revealed which teammate played a decisive role in his move to the Catalan club.

"Robert Lewandowski was the first to call me about this opportunity, especially since I had already retired. Initially, I wasn't ready for new challenges, but then I spoke with my family and friends, and they all told me it would be a mistake not to take the offer.

Therefore, Robert played a very important role because he was the one who figured out how to convince me," Szczęsny told Football Espana.

The Blaugrauna's contract with the 34-year-old goalkeeper is for one year. In August, the Polish player had retired after leaving Juventus, but he accepted Barcelona's offer after the club lost Marc-André ter Stegen to a serious injury.

Earlier, media reports suggested that Szczęsny would need to compensate Juventus in case of a move to Barcelona. The player's contract with the Turin-based club was set to run until the summer of 2025.
