The 33-year-old former Liverpool defender, Joël Matip, has decided to end his professional football career, as reported by Ruhr Nachrichten.
This past summer, the Cameroonian player's contract with the Merseyside club expired, leaving him without a team. Matip joined Liverpool from Schalke in the summer of 2016. During his time with the club, he played 201 matches, scored 11 goals, and provided six assists.
Previously, he represented Schalke, where he played 258 games, scored 23 goals, and made 14 assists. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at €8 million.
