"They need to hear us out," says Tebas on the lawsuit filed by Europe's top leagues against FIFA
La Liga's president, Javier Tebas, has elucidated why Europe's top-tier leagues have lodged a lawsuit against the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
"It's strange that FIFA recently seems to have missed what has been unfolding in Europe's most significant court. FIFA cannot dictate matters pertaining to employment without agreement between the employee and the employer," Tebas expounds.
"FIFA has approved a new transfer window which directly impacts employees and employers and contravenes recent European Union regulations. There are over 50,000 professional players around the world and more than 2,000 professional clubs. Football governance rules need to be under debate.
Football is not what it was 10 or 20 years ago, however, it is governed by the same rules as then. We were compelled to file this lawsuit. They call on us to engage in the discussion. We accept this and reciprocate the call.
They must heed us and agree that there should only be more tournaments if they do not harm the health of players, contradict the leagues' interests... We voice these concerns repeatedly, yet, in the end, they seem to do as they wish," FIFPro As quoted Tebas' words from the press conference.
Earlier, Tebas declared that La Liga, APL and FIFPro will bring charges against FIFA in the European Court for unilateral decisions.
