Bet on the match
Coquimbo Unido go into the second leg in a comfortable position. The 1:1 draw in Vicente López left the tie open, and a narrow result will be enough for the hosts at home. Hernán Caputto has no need to push forward and open up: if the aggregate score is level, there will be extra time rather than elimination.
At home, Coquimbo are a fortress. The team have not lost on their own ground since March and have kept five clean sheets in their last 10 home matches. In the Copa Libertadores, the hosts have gone three home matches unbeaten.
The Chileans also play at a low tempo. In seven of their last eight competitive matches, Coquimbo have not exceeded two goals: 1:1 against La Serena, 1:0 against San Marcos, and two League Cup semi-finals with one goal per game.
Platense would go chasing goals if Martín Palermo had anyone to score them. Tomás Nasif is out with a cruciate ligament injury, Gonzalo Goni with a ruptured Achilles tendon, while Augusto Lotti and Maximiliano Amarfil are doubts with back problems. The Argentines managed just eight goals across six group matches.
The 0:4 thrashing by Talleres does not point towards an over either. Platense played that match still under Walter Zunino. Palermo has started differently — with a 1:0 win in Avellaneda, where the team sat deep all evening and scored after a goalkeeper error.
The first leg has already shown where the tie is heading: Luciano Giménez's headed goal, Diego Sánchez's saved penalty and Guido Vadalá's equaliser in the 90+5th minute. Few chances, plenty of caution. Coquimbo would settle for one accurate strike, Platense for conceding none before a penalty shoot-out. Such a match rarely goes beyond two goals.
