Hamilton Admits to Battling Depression for Most of His Life

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he has struggled with depression for many years.

“When I was in my early twenties, I went through some really tough times. I mean, I’ve been battling mental health issues for as long as I can remember. Depression has been a part of my life almost from the beginning, since I was about 13... I think it stems from the pressure of racing and being bullied at school. I had no one to talk to,” the driver said in an interview with The Times.

The 39-year-old Briton is a seven-time world champion and the first Formula 1 driver in history to achieve 100 race victories. Hamilton is also well-known for his tenure at McLaren from 2007 to 2012. Starting in the 2025 season, he will join Ferrari.
