Verstappen: "Red Bull Currently Unable to Compete with McLaren, Even on Regular Tracks"
Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has admitted that the Austrian team is currently trailing behind the British outfit McLaren.
"We still need to get to grips with the basic pace of our car and our race pace over long distances. Of course, we understand that the Singapore Grand Prix circuit is far from ideal for our car, but I believe that right now, Red Bull cannot compete with McLaren even on regular tracks. So we need to boost our speed.
During this race, I quickly realised that I just couldn't keep up with Norris. So I tried to focus on my own race and maintain a reasonable pace, even though it wasn't anywhere close to Lando’s. The first stint was tough. The rear tyres were wearing out significantly, and the car was sliding a lot, which caused me to lose a lot of time per lap. The second stint was better. It was still not as good as I’d like, but the situation looked more optimistic," Verstappen told RaceFans.net.
On 22 September, McLaren driver Lando Norris won the Singapore Grand Prix, while the Dutchman finished second.
