Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Huntingdon 2m4f Gin And Dubonnet Lady Protectress Mares' Chase (Listed Race) (5yo+) horse racing event.
All The Glory has had four runs this season, finishing last on her first three starts in small fields. Last time out, however, she produced a much-improved effort when an unexpected third in a Mares’ Handicap Chase at Windsor, beaten only a nose for second. She could build on that performance.
Shakeyatailfeather has finished fifth in two Premier Handicaps this season, but did manage to land a Handicap Chase in mixed company against geldings. Back against her own sex and in a less demanding contest, she looks to have a solid chance.
Jasmine Bliss finished third on her first and only start over fences in a Limited Handicap Chase at Kempton, where she faced only geldings. This looks a manageable test against these rivals.
Ruby Island won a Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Ayr while carrying top weight. She finished fourth last time and it is not certain she can improve on that here.
Seven year old Piper Park stands out as the least experienced runner, having made just two career starts, excluding her point-to-point win. Modest form and a 405-day absence count against her.
Paggane switched countries and yards this season, joining Faye Bramley from Willie Mullins in June. She has since run six times for her new trainer and has landed two Listed races for mares. On her latest start she finished third in the Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase, a Listed race in stronger company than this. She is our selection to come out on top.
