Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Champions League match.
The first high-profile fixture on the opening day of the fourth round of the league phase of the Women's Champions League will be the match between Wolfsburg and Manchester United. The bookmakers give a slight edge to Wolfsburg, although the hosts have repeatedly lost concentration in big matches this season.
Wolfsburg (women)
Last week Wolfsburg could not cope with the pressure from Olympique Lyonnais away (1:3). The French side pulled away on the scoreboard by the 30th minute, and the final 0.67:4.01 in xG suggested that they were actually fortunate not to lose by a wider margin. On Saturday the squad got the job done in the DFB-Pokal against Freiburg (3:1), but conceded again – this was their eighth consecutive match in which they have had goals against them.
Manchester United (women)
Regular wins for Manchester United on the international stage show that the club are focused on success in the Women's Champions League. Of course, the defeats against Aston Villa (0:1) and Manchester City (0:3) in the Women's Super League were painful setbacks, but between them the club managed to beat Paris Saint-Germain (2:1) in the Women's Champions League. They are one of three teams in the Women's Champions League who have yet to drop points – the others are Olympique Lyonnais and Barcelona. Before the derby defeat to Manchester City, the visitors had put together five away wins in a row.
Wolfsburg (Women) vs Manchester United (women) Prediction
In this first-ever meeting between Wolfsburg and Manchester United, we do not expect either side to dominate the game. The Double Chance on the visitors is the bet we will take.
