In the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Conference League, Romanian side CFR Cluj host Norwegian side Tromso at the Stadionul Dr. Constantin Radulescu 6 August 2026 at 17:30 BST.

CFR Cluj were placed in the Conference League from the start, while Tromso dropped into it after failing in the second round of the Europa League. It is strange that the visitors are favourites.

Perhaps it is because CFR Cluj only got past Alashkert, the fourth-placed team in the last Armenian championship. In addition, in the return leg in Romania, the visitors were reduced to 10 men as early as the 12th minute. Naturally, the Railwaymen were able to attack calmly in open spaces, often working the ball out wide. They have problems getting results away from home — not a single win across this and last season's European campaigns (three draws and two defeats, with three matches without scoring), but at the Stadionul Dr. Constantin Radulescu over the same period they beat four opponents to nil and lost only to future Europa League semi-finalists Braga (1:2).

Tromso are considered slight favourites, although the odds on their win have moved well beyond 2.00. Where has that come from, if their Europa League exit was sealed away from home? The Norwegian side fell apart at the start of the second half, and 1:1 against Hradec Kralove turned into 1:3. The visitors conceded all three goals from headers. Incidentally, the claret-and-whites scored their first home goal against Alashkert in the same way. Yes, the northerners are in better shape, but over the past 10 years they have played at continental level only in the 2024/25 season. In that Conference League qualifying campaign, Tromso beat only KuPS (1:0), who have continued losing at home this year. The Romanian side, meanwhile, have been testing themselves in Europe every year since the early 2020s.

CFR Cluj are being underestimated. It is the same story in the Romanian league: they lose away from home, but are unstoppable at home — 5:0 against Voluntari. The hosts clearly deserve at least a Draw No Bet wager.
