ACF Fiorentina's struggles at the bottom of Serie A continue. Today they travel to face Cremonese, who are one place below them in the relegation zone, so both sides are fully motivated.
After a decent opening spell that had lifted the hosts into the Serie A top 10, they have suffered a sharp drop in results. The newcomers to the Italian top flight have been poor since the beginning of December: over the last 15 league rounds Jamie Vardy and his team-mates have collected seven points and scored only six goals, while Lecce, the side with the second-worst attack in the league, have five more (11). Incidentally, the hosts lost to Lecce just a week ago (1:2) – their sixth defeat in their last seven matches.
Even so, ACF Fiorentina are not clear favourites for this match. The Florence side have become preoccupied with the Conference League play-offs, where they spent a lot of energy in the first leg against Rak3w Częstochowa (2:1). Before that they produced a dull combined 180 minutes against Udinese Calcio (0:3) and Parma Calcio 1913 (0:0), accumulating only 1.34 xG. Away from home, they are unlikely to take risks: a defeat would send them back into the relegation zone and damage the players' mentality.
Today the hosts will be without their main defensive partnership of Federico Baschirotto and Giuseppe Pezzella, so they are likely to set up a deep defensive block. The visitors are also expected to prioritise counter-attacks – in January they won in Florence by the narrowest of margins (1:0).
