Dinamo Zagreb
On Tuesday 28 July 2026, in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round, Dinamo Zagreb will host Thun. The match at Maksimir in Zagreb will kick off at 19:00 BST.
The first leg in Switzerland ended in a 1:1 draw, leaving the tie completely open. The Swiss champions have reached this stage for the first time in 21 years and are already playing in their domestic league, whereas the Croatians are keeping their rhythm only through European competition.
Dinamo will go out not to chase the scoreline, but to repair the situation. The 1:1 draw in Switzerland gave the Croatians nothing: any Thun goal in Zagreb blows their whole plan apart. That is why Mario Kovacevic will not sit back — that is not how he plays anyway. In the first leg his side racked up 20 shots with 57% possession. At home that superiority will be even more pronounced.
The Croatian champions’ attack is built precisely for this kind of football. Dion Drena Beljo battles up front, Mislav Orsic has returned from Pafos and added sharpness on the flank, and Miha Zajc in Thun got to a ball in the opposition box in the 86th minute. Dinamo are unbeaten in 19 matches in a row and have gone eight games without defeat at Maksimir. There are no absentees at all.
Now to Thun — and this is the key point. The Swiss simply cannot play defensive football. In their title‑winning season they scored 80 goals and conceded 52 — that is what a team who pour forward at any scoreline look like. At home against Dinamo they lost the possession battle but won on clear chances (2-1) and corners (9-5). Brighton Labeau scored with a header as early as the 20th minute.
The visitors have the sharper match fitness. The Swiss league has already started, and Thun won 3:1 in Lucerne with a reserve line‑up, giving eight first‑team regulars a rest. The Croatian league has not begun yet, Dinamo are maintaining their sharpness only through Europe. Thun’s absences hit the defence rather than the attack: Mats Seiler is out with a groin problem, and Genis Montolio has been ruled out for months with a cruciate ligament injury. It is exactly the line that has to deal with Beljo that will be weaker.
There is no sense in backing a clean sheet here. The visitors need a goal or they go out, and they know how to find one. The hosts will attack for the whole match, because only a win suits them.
