A week ago, FK Kauno Zalgiris should have finished their opponents off late on, but ultimately allowed FC Drita back into the game and conceded in the final 10 minutes. Zeljko Sopic's side are in excellent form: the Lithuanian championship is played in a spring-autumn format and the reigning champions currently lead with a narrow advantage over FK Banga Gargzdai. In essence, the game against the Kosovans was the first test for FK Kauno Zalgiris under their new coach — Sopic only joined the club in late June. The Lithuanians certainly did not fall short and kept the tempo well with defensive midfielder Yukiyoshi Karashima, but the group of foreign players up front were not as creative (only three shots on target in 90 minutes). On the other hand, FK Kauno Zalgiris allowed their opponents just one shot on target — it brought a goal, but there were no other chances.
Unlike the Lithuanian champions, FC Drita had not played an official match for almost a month and a half. The team from Gjilan failed in all three friendlies, losing each of them and scoring only two goals in total. On the other hand, Zekirija Ramadani's side looked excellent late in the match in Kaunas — they found their rhythm. FC Drita's main problem is the absence of three injured players (Rron Broja, Juan Camilo Mesa and Ilir Mustafa), without whom their squad depth has dropped. The Kosovo champions are again forced to play deep, avoiding risky attacking transitions through the centre of the pitch.
Before the match in Pristina, FK Kauno Zalgiris thrashed FK Panevezys (3:0), once again demonstrating their attacking potential. FC Drita understand the level of their opponents, so they will again drop into a low block with three nominal defensive midfielders, while the forward pairing of Igball Jashari and Blerim Krasniqi will try to latch on to long balls up front. Minimal risk from both teams should produce another Under 2.5 goals result.
