On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, Albania's KF Egnatia and Slovenia's NK Celje will meet in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. The match will kick off at 20:00 BST at Arena Egnatia in Rrogozhine.
Albania's KF Egnatia have come through the opening Champions League qualifying round for the first time in their history and are preparing to host NK Celje. The visitors are rated as favourites by the bookmakers thanks to their greater European experience, but the hosts are riding high after thrashing FC Petrocub Hincesti and are capable of putting up a fight on home soil.
KF Egnatia have rewritten the club's history: after holding FC Petrocub Hincesti to a 1:1 draw away from home, the Albanians produced a real spectacle at home and thrashed the Moldovan club 6:1. That is no surprise, as since the start of the year the Albanians have lost only four of their last 15 home matches. New signing Eneo Bitri instantly became the leader of the defence and even got on the scoresheet. The return from suspension of captain Albano Aleksi also works in KF Egnatia's favour, with his comeback set to restore the old solidity to the link between defence and midfield.
The Slovenian club are going through a difficult phase of major rebuilding under Vitor Campelos. This summer, NK Celje lost their top scorer Nikita Iosifov (12 goals), as well as key defenders Zan Karnicnik and Juanjo Nieto. New arrivals Veton Tusha, Matic Ivansek, Alpha Diounkou and Pijus Sirvys are still adapting, and that is directly reflected in the results: just two wins in five pre-season friendlies and a slip-up in the opening round of the Slovenian league against NS Mura (2:2). There are serious gaps in the Slovenian side's defence, while their play is built largely around Svit Seslar's individual quality.
NK Celje's status as away favourites for this match looks highly debatable. The Slovenians have not yet found their team rhythm and have conceded in five matches in a row. At the same time, KF Egnatia play with huge emotional momentum at home, attack a lot and shut down spaces reliably thanks to Aleksi's return. The Albanian club will continue their fairytale run and will at least avoid defeat in the first match against NK Celje.
