Lincoln Red Imps
The first leg of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round between Lincoln Red Imps and Omonia will take place at Europa Point Stadium in Gibraltar 6 August 2026 at 18:00 BST.
Both teams failed in Champions League qualifying, so they will now fight for a place in the UEFA Europa League. On paper, though, we are unlikely to see much intrigue, as the reigning champions of Cyprus look stronger in every aspect.
In the Champions League, Lincoln Red Imps faced Swedish side Mjallby, who clearly showed the level of the Gibraltar team: they won 3:0 on aggregate and had 34 shots on goal. With defending like that, they have no place in European competition. Even a change of shape is unlikely to help, as Lincoln Red Imps already set up with a back five near their own goal.
Omonia had excellent chances to continue their Champions League campaign, but suffered a painful defeat to Kairat in a penalty shootout. The resilience of the Cypriot team is also worth noting. After being reduced to ten men in the 26th minute, they conceded only once, while 38-year-old goalkeeper Freitas made 10 saves. It is important to remember that the domestic league has not started yet, so the players have had time to recover fully and get back to peak condition.
It is hard to believe we will see any real intrigue. Lincoln Red Imps are inferior in quality in every position and will not be able to hold out for long against a top-class, motivated opponent. Omonia will settle everything in the first match.
