Víkingur Reykjavík
On Tuesday, 7 July, the first qualifying round match in the Champions League between Vikingur Reykjavik and Hungarian side Gyori ETO will take place at the Vikingsvollur stadium in Reykjavik. The match is scheduled to start at 20:00 BST.
The hosts have gained a serious advantage, as their league has not gone on a break, which has allowed them to maintain optimal match sharpness.
Vikingur Reykjavik currently look the more composed team thanks to regular match practice in the Icelandic league. The team understand their strengths well and actively use attacks down the flanks, especially in home matches, where the tempo is traditionally high. Yes, the management kept the leaders in the summer, but they returned to the team's camp only last week.
The key difference between the teams is match sharpness. The hosts are at peak fitness and will immediately put their opponents under pressure with a high tempo and powerful flanks. It is unlikely that Gyori ETO will turn the tide against the opponents' pressure and take a win home.
