Golovkin has been appointed as the chairman of the Olympic Commission of World Boxing

Gennady Golovkin, the president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, has been appointed as the chairman of the new Olympic Commission of World Boxing — an international boxing federation established in 2023 as an alternative to the International Boxing Association (IBA).

In his new role, Golovkin is tasked with preserving boxing as part of the Olympic program and attaining recognition for World Boxing by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

«For me personally, as well as for all of Kazakhstan and the sports world, it is crucial to keep boxing as an Olympic sport, and this will be my highest priority. I also intend to work closely with the IOC on matters concerning boxing's commitment to the Olympic values of integrity, fairness, and transparency.

I am confident that my experience as a professional athlete will help us build a systematic approach within World Boxing, and together we can give boxing a new impetus for development, but there is still much work ahead,» Golovkin was quoted by Olympic.kz.

His last fight took place in September 2022, where the Kazakhstani boxer lost by unanimous decision to undisputed world champion in the super middleweight division, Saul Alvarez.

Throughout his professional boxing career, the 42-year-old Golovkin has achieved 42 victories (37 by knockout), suffered two defeats, and had one fight end in a draw. In February of this year, he took the helm of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.
