Hermoso: "For All Women, I Will Continue to Strive to Make Sports and the World Better"
Jennifer Hermoso, midfielder for Tigres and the Spain national team, expressed her commitment to improving football and the world after receiving the Socrates Award for her off-field contributions.
"This award means a lot to me. It reminds me of the responsibility that athletes carry both on and off the pitch. It is for all my teammates with whom I share the football field, where equality is not always present.
We want to leave football in a better state for future generations. For all women, I will continue to show courage in my efforts to make sports and the world better," the athlete stated, as reported by Marca.
In August 2023, Spain's women's national team won the World Cup for the first time in history. During the awards ceremony, Luis Rubiales kissed Hermoso on the lips, leading to his suspension from football activities for 90 days, after which he resigned as president of the RFEF. Subsequently, FIFA banned the 46-year-old Spaniard from all football-related activities for three years.
On March 27, it was reported that the Spanish prosecutor's office is seeking a 2.5-year prison sentence for Luis Rubiales.
