"You’d have to ask him why he’s not here," Kane comments on Mbappe’s absence at Ballon d'Or ceremony
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane addressed the absence of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe at the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony.
"Not attending is his personal choice. We had a great season, so it’s an honor for me to win this award. You’d have to ask him directly why he’s not here. In any case, it's a privilege for me to be here tonight," Kane shared, as quoted by Bayern & Germany on social media.
Kane and Mbappe were awarded the Gerd Müller Trophy for the 2023/24 season, recognizing their impressive 52 goals each.
The France Football awards ceremony is currently underway at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Mbappe's absence during the presentation left Kane alone on stage to receive the trophy.
