"One day, I told my father I was quitting football": Rodri speaks on winning the Ballon d’Or

Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri shared his emotions following his Ballon d’Or win.

"Thank you for this. It’s a special day for me and for all those close to me. Once, I told my father, ‘That’s it, I’m quitting football; my dream is over.’ But he told me, ‘No, keep going, let’s see it through to the end.’ Today, I’m here, and I’m proud. I owe so many thanks," the footballer shared, as quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Last season, Rodri played 50 matches for Manchester City, scoring nine goals and delivering 14 assists. With his club, he won the Premier League title and the FIFA Club World Cup.
