Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2026 World Cup qualifying match.
A confident start to the qualification round by Greece gave their supporters false hope for a successful campaign. Ivan Jovanović approaches this match against Scotland on a three-game losing run — their chances of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification are almost gone.
Greece
A home rout of Belarus (5:1) briefly put Greece top of Group C. Then the rivals took over: the hosts did not put up a fight against Scotland (1:3) and Denmark (0:3 and 1:3), repeatedly making errors. In the most recent qualifier in Copenhagen, Greece conceded three times by the 41st minute, although they finished with a higher xG (1.74 vs 1.23) — the quality of chances was on the opponents’ side.
Scotland
In this qualifying cycle Scotland have stayed with their compact style. With the same 10 points as Denmark, they are lower due to goal difference (+5 vs +11). Opponents understand that Scott McTominay deserves special attention — he is tightly marked, so he has 1+1 in qualifying. On the other hand, the leader has support from Che Adams (2+0), Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Christie and Lewis Ferguson (all with a goal), so the visitors have depth in attack.
Greece vs Scotland Prediction
Unlike Greece, who also have talented players, Scotland have valuable experience, as shown in the first head-to-head in Glasgow (3:1), where the hosts scored three times in the final half-hour. We will take the double chance for Scotland.
