Hoffenheim have finally got their chance. Ilzer's side beat Werder Bremen last Saturday (1:0), while in a parallel match Stuttgart saw off Bayer Leverkusen (3:1). Thus Leverkusen dropped out of the race for the top four, but Hoffenheim are still below the Swabians — both have 61 points, yet Stuttgart are higher on tiebreakers.
Hoffenheim can rightly be considered the main revelation of the current Bundesliga season. The club have unlocked several top names at once, and the key element of the blue-and-whites' system has been the double pivot of Burger and Avdullahu. This pairing allows the attacking quartet to focus on creativity, while both midfielders also like to join the attacks with late runs.
Gladbach, on the contrary, have become one of the biggest disappointments of the season. Borussia spent a long time stuck in the relegation zone in the autumn, and over the last eight rounds the Foals have only managed to beat unmotivated Dortmund (1:0). In the previous round Polanski's team suffered a deserved defeat against Augsburg (1:3) with 2.80 xGA.
Borussia lack a quality low block — everything hinges on long balls into the final third, where Tabakovic fights for possession. The Bosnian, incidentally, missed the last match — his replacement Matino made no impact on the pitch, and Honora was substituted immediately after the interval.
With three wins in their last four league matches, Hoffenheim are deserved favourites. In January the visitors demolished Gladbach in Sinsheim (5:1).
