Djokovic has responded to Nadal's decision to end his career
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has responded to the decision by 22-time Grand Slam champion Spaniard Rafael Nadal to retire from professional tennis.
"No post would suffice to express my respect for you and what you've done for tennis. You've inspired millions of children to pick up a racquet, and I believe that is probably the greatest achievement any player can dream of.
Your persistence, determination, and fighting spirit will serve as an example for decades to come. Your legacy will live forever. Only you know what you had to endure to become an icon of tennis, and for sport in general.
Thank you for pushing me to the limit so many times in our rivalry, which has influenced me the most as a player.
Your passion for representing Spain has always been impressive. I wish you the best of farewells in Malaga with the Davis Cup national team. I will be there in person to pay tribute to your stellar career," Djokovic wrote on social media.
Today, the 38-year-old Spaniard announced his decision to retire from professional tennis after the final part of the 2024 Davis Cup, which will be held from the 19th to the 24th of November in Malaga, Spain.
Over his career, Rafael Nadal has won 92 ATP tournaments, including 22 Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard has twice become an Olympic Champion.
