Katie Boulter completes rain-interrupted Japan Open win
Katie Boulter secured her place in the second round of the Japan Open in Osaka on Tuesday after finishing off a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Japanese wildcard Himeno Sakatsume. The British player led by a set and 3-1 on Monday before rain forced play to be suspended overnight.
Boulter converted five of her nine break points while saving 12 of the 13 break points she faced against Sakatsume. Following the win, the 30-year-old will face Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic in the second round.
“Yesterday was a tough spot to end at. I wanted to play last night and continue but with the rain, unfortunately, that wasn't possible. It meant that I had to have the same mindset again today and just try to get over the line and focus on getting through the match,” Katie Boulter said to reporters.
- Katie Boulter won her fourth WTA singles title at Ostrava on 7 February 2026, coming from a set down to beat Tamara Korpatsch 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
- The Kinoshita Group Japan Open in Osaka and the Ningbo Open in China are both scheduled for 19-25 October 2026 on the WTA calendar.
