Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
After Lamine Yamal's injury, Barcelona no longer seem as threatening, but against Stade Brestois at the Camp Nou, the Catalans are expected to secure nothing less than a victory. The playing style of their upcoming opponent and their current form suit Barcelona well; the French side suffered three defeats in four matches in November.
Barcelona
Since the beginning of October, Barcelona have embarked on a seven-match winning streak, the latest triumph coming during their away fixture against Crvena Zvezda (5:2) in Belgrade. In Serbia, they dominated every phase of the game, creating 3.55 xG with a significant shot disparity (21-4). Even in matches against Real Sociedad (0:1) and Celta Vigo (2:2), Barcelona generated many opportunities thanks to the talents of Raphinha Dias and Robert Lewandowski. The Brazilian has notably contributed 10 goals and 4 assists in his last 10 games for both club and country.
Stade Brestois
Despite their domestic struggles, Stade Brestois have remained in the top eight of the Champions League since the start of the league stage. However, there are criticisms of their play even in winning situations; for instance, against Sparta Prague (2:1), they nearly squandered their lead towards the end. In Ligue 1, they suffered painful setbacks against Montpellier (1:3) and AS Monaco (1:2), exposing vulnerabilities in their defence.
Barcelona vs Stade Brestois Prediction
In Catalonia, it is unlikely that Stade Brestois will extend their unbeaten run in European competition. Barcelona should comfortably handle an underdog not yet ready to be in the category of giants.
