Form and Line-up Austria
Austria come into the tournament in good shape. In their last five matches, Ralf Rangnick's team have taken four wins and one draw, while in 2026 they won all three friendlies — against Ghana (5:1), South Korea (1:0) and Tunisia (1:0). The last match was especially telling: Austria played more than a half with 10 men after Konrad Laimer was sent off, but still managed to finish off their opponent. In qualifying, the team won Group H and sealed a direct ticket through a draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:1).
The playing profile has remained familiar: high pressing, quick ball recovery, vertical passes and pressure through second balls. Sabitzer should link midfield with attack, Seiwald and Schlager should shut down the centre, while Arnautovic and Danso provide a threat from set pieces. In terms of fitness, the main nuance is Alaba. He was substituted after half-time against Tunisia because of muscle discomfort, but remained in the squad and is preparing for the opener. Baumgartner has been ruled out completely, so there is less flexibility in attack, but Wanner, Schmid and Chukwuemeka give Rangnick options between the lines.
Key numbers:
Austria have not lost any of their last five matches.
In their last five matches, Austria conceded no more than one goal and kept three clean sheets.
Austria scored first in four of their last five matches.
Probable line-up (4-2-3-1): Alexander Schlager — Konrad Laimer, Kevin Danso, David Alaba, Philipp Mwene — Xaver Schlager, Nicolas Seiwald — Romano Schmid, Marcel Sabitzer, Paul Wanner — Marko Arnautovic.
Absentees: Christoph Baumgartner — thigh injury, misses the tournament.
Form and Line-up Jordan
Jordan are heading to their debut tournament. In December, the team produced a strong run at the Arab Cup: they reached the final and lost to Morocco only in extra time (2:3). Results dipped after that: draws with Costa Rica (2:2) and Nigeria (2:2), a defeat to Switzerland (1:4) and their final World Cup warm-up against Colombia (0:2). Sellami sets his team up cautiously: a low block, a compact midfield and quick transitions through Musa Al-Taamari. This is a workable plan against a favourite, but it requires a huge amount of off-ball running.
In terms of fitness and squad options, Jordan have a serious problem. The team have lost several important players at once: Al-Naimat, Sabra, Smeyri and Al-Qurashi. That has made their depth noticeably worse, especially up front and on the right side of defence. Al-Taamari remains the key man for quick attacks, but without Al-Naimat and Sabra, Jordan have fewer options in the final third. The team can hold out for a long time through discipline, but freshness and the quality of substitutions are the main risk.
Key numbers:
Jordan conceded at least two goals in each of their last five matches.
Over 2.5 goals landed in four of Jordan's last five matches.
Both teams scored in four of Jordan's last five matches.
Probable line-up (4-5-1): Yazid Abu Layla — Abdallah Nasib, Yazan Al-Arab, Ehsan Haddad, Salim Obaid — Nizar Al-Rashdan, Noor Al-Rawabdeh, Ibrahim Sadeh, Mohammad Al-Daud, Musa Al-Taamari — Ali Olwan.
Absentees: Yazan Al-Naimat and Adham Al-Qurashi have not recovered from cruciate ligament injuries. Issam Smeyri — Achilles rupture, out of the tournament. Ibrahim Sabra has been ruled out with an ankle injury, and Mohammad Abu Ghosh has been included in the squad in his place.
