Malkin discussed how Ovechkin's game for the Washington Capitals has evolved over the years

Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin shared his observations on how the play of Washington's captain, Alexander Ovechkin, has changed over the years.

«I've started watching Ovechkin's game more closely. He doesn't go one-on-one as much anymore. Instead, he moves towards the net more and fights for loose pucks. I want to play more in that area and score 'dirty' goals», Malkin is quoted as saying by The Athletic.

Ovechkin has represented Washington since 2005. Last season, the 39-year-old played in 79 NHL regular-season games, scoring 31 goals and providing 34 assists. In the four playoff matches, the Capitals' captain was not involved in any scoring plays. Throughout his NHL career, the Russian has scored 853 goals, placing him second on the league's all-time top scorers list. He needs an additional 41 goals to catch up with Wayne Gretzky.
