Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
The packed schedule of the last two rounds in the Champions League group stage promises thrilling encounters. The clash between AS Monaco and Aston Villa, two sides vying for the top eight, is set to be filled with dangerous moments, and bookmakers have yet to settle on a clear favourite for the match.
AS Monaco
Following defeats to Benfica (2:3) and Arsenal (0:3), Monaco remain at the lower end of the top half of the Champions League table. They have a less than reliable defence (conceding 10 goals — only two clubs in the top 20 have worse records), and with injuries to players like Wilfried Singo and Denis Zakaria, the coaching staff have limited defensive options. In 2025, Monaco have suffered three losses in four matches, with their French Cup elimination to Stade de Reims (1:2 after penalties) and a defeat to Ligue 1 strugglers Montpellier (1:2) resulting in a worrying 3.66 xGA.
Aston Villa
When it comes to Aston Villa's form, they have only improved in the latter part of the season. On Saturday, they clawed back from 0:2 away against Arsenal (2:2) — they are just two points shy of the Premier League's top four. In the Champions League, the Birmingham team have conceded just three goals in six matches — only Arsenal (2), Inter Milan, and Liverpool (both 1) have better defences.
AS Monaco vs Aston Villa Prediction
In five home games since early November, Monaco have conceded 10 goals. Aston Villa are expected to create enough chances at the opposing end and will not lose to Monaco — a draw is sufficient for them to keep their top-eight hopes alive.
