Tutierov scores first Sunderland goal in draw at Lech Poznan

Timur Tutierov scored his first Sunderland goal, but Martin Bengtsson's equaliser earned Lech Poznan a 1-1 draw in the Europa League in Poland. Sunderland remained unbeaten with seven points from their opening three league-phase matches.

Tutierov headed in Nilson Angulo's cross in the second minute after Sunderland's high press forced a poor clearance from Mateusz Lis. It was the fastest goal in this season's Europa League and came on Tutierov's fourth Sunderland appearance.

Substitute Bengtsson equalised in the 70th minute, firing through a crowd of players following a knock-down from a corner to beat Robin Roefs at his near post. Sunderland finished with 25 shots, including 11 on target, while substitute Chris Rigg curled a 20-yard effort just over the bar late on.

  • Lech Poznan had opened their Europa League league-phase campaign with a 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace before losing 4-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
  • Before facing Sunderland, Lech Poznan had won their previous three Ekstraklasa matches, recording victories by scorelines of 6-1, 4-1 and 5-1.
