England win first Cerebral Palsy World Cup after extra time
England won the Cerebral Palsy World Cup for the first time with a 2-1 extra-time victory over the United States in Atlanta. The hosts took the lead from a corner with three minutes left, but Sam Dewhirst equalised to force extra time.
David Porcher scored the winner after Dewhirst's shot was saved. England cerebral palsy head coach Jack Rutter described the win as historic for the sport. He praised the sacrifices made by the players and staff and said they had gone into the tournament hoping they might win a medal.
