Caroline Weir 25th in Women's Ballon d'Or and on Scottish awards shortlist
Scotland and Lyon midfielder Caroline Weir placed 25th in the Women's Ballon d'Or rankings on the day she was shortlisted for the 2026 Scottish Women's Football Awards. It was her second consecutive Ballon d'Or nomination, following 30th place last year.
Weir joins Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert, Brann winger Lauren Davidson and striker Kathleen McGovern, who moved from Hibernian to Newcastle United, on the Scotland international player of the year shortlist. Already named PFA Scotland manager of the season, she is nominated alongside Rangers' Leanne Crichton, Hibernian's Joelle Murray and Jack Beesley, who led Spartans back to the top flight. The winners will be announced at Hampden Park on 28 November.
- Caroline Weir had already been named Albert Bartlett SFWA Women's International Player of the Year before the association published its awards shortlists on 11 May 2026.
- Weir and Erin Cuthbert were also shortlisted for International Player of the Year at the 2025 Scottish Women's Football Awards, alongside Lee Gibson and Kirsty Maclean.
